I really wish she'd stop trying to get all our attention, yammering about something random, and then going completely off-topic.

Oh, yeah... Didn't see this one coming, did you? Fillies & Gentlecolts, we have FINALLY hit the rising action of the story. Yes, all of that was just the exposition. But, now, we're finally getting somewhere! The plot is moving along!

And, to compliment this darker comic, would anypony like to see this image of a realistic firearm I made, with a lot of influence from 007?
http://lugbzurg.deviantart.com/art/Koro-Weapons-P2K-Wolfram-307099280

The tower and landscape were all designed by myself from scratch. Same with the visuals in the last panel. Every pixel in that panel is my own design. The things I had to borrow are the forest elements (trees, rocks, etc.) and the foreground. The trees and rocks and the like were put together by BonesWolbach and the foreground, (the lighting, blue moon and water) is all actually from a single background image (done with some creative placement) by AshenSorrow of DeviantART. And, I suppose that now is as good a time as any to remind you about the Pony Creator, which I've been using to build nearly every one of the side view pony graphics. (All for just ponies I've designed, some other fan characters, and one instance of Twilight Sparkle.)

And she is not a random pony!
She's very important to this plot!

Which brings up some interesting points about her early design and that of Nova Reach's.

Now, neither of them looked very different in their early designs from what they look like now. But, I was having trouble, at first, deciding if Nova Reach should be a unicorn, pegasus, or an earth pony. I ultimately chose earth pony for a few reasons, such as that she would be stuck on the ground, despite always looking to the stars (making her a pegasus just wouldn't feel the same), thus, making the idea of her as a "dreamer" that much stronger, working within her limitations with more motivation. Plus, making her a unicorn would've made her start to seem a bit too much like Twilight Sparkle, considering they're both into astronomy. She also used to have magenta in her mane and tail, rather than blue, if I recall correctly.

Now, this new character had a completely different problem. See, I had started production on Serendipity less than a month after I'd seen my first episode of FiM. So, I didn't have nearly as much to go off of as I do now. While Nova Reach, I originally had a hard time deciding if she'd be a unicorn, pegasus, or earth pony, this stranger, on the other hand, was originally all three. That's right. In her initial design, this character was an alicorn. At some point I realized that this was a problem, and had to change her. I had to choose which species she'd be, and I really liked the fancy wings I'd given her, but, I wouldn't have been able to fold them. Plus, when I started developing this character further, and deciding her future involvement in the story, I realized that her being a unicorn was much more important. So, that's what she ended up becoming. She also used to have silver bracelets.

Another fun fact!
Nova Reach's cutie mark is loaded right into the Pony Creator before she's exported. However, this one's cutie mark comes out way too small and squished when I try to load it in. So, I have to add it manually, as I'm building the comic page.

@Lugbzurg: So what was the first episode of FiM you saw? Mine was Lesson Zero. Well, part of it anyway; my brother was watching it when the episode first aired, and I walked in on him watching it about five minutes into the episode (about at the part with the Sonic Rainnuke). I ended up seeing Luna Eclipsed and Cutie Pox (again, in the latter case, about five to ten minutes in) before basically going on an archive binge to see all the episodes I had missed up to that point. I even watched Lesson Zero, Luna Eclipsed, and Cutie Pox again to make sure I saw the whole episode. I think I had actually managed to watch all of them before May The Best Pet Win aired, though up until "MMMystery at the Friendship Express", I watched each episode on Youtube a day or two after they aired. I also did some research on the show on TvTropes as I was watching them, so I knew a few plot points and episode plots before I actually watched them. And as I've said, I still haven't seen Family Appreciation Day, but since I'm watching ALL the episodes again, I'm going to wait until I've reached Secret of My Excess until I finally get around to it (Netflix puts the episodes in their production order, so Family Appreciation Day and Baby Cakes are listed before Hearth's Warming Eve). Though when I get to The Last Roundup, I'll just watch the unedited version on the Friendship Express DVD that my brother has.

@Jarkes: I saw the first episode first. After Sonic Paradox got me interested with their redub, I wanted to see the real thing for myself.

So, I searched online to find what the first episode was called (Apparently, it's getting called "Friendship is Magic Part 1: Mare in the Moon"), and checked DirecTV for when it would air. I watched it with my little sister and she loved it, too.

So, you'll be going to extra mile to see the unedited version of The Last Roundup? Good man.

I was honestly expecting some radically different reactions to this page, considering all the bright colors, cheerfulness, and light-hearted humor that's been springing out and about.

@Lugbzurg:

Yeah, my brother actually got the DVD almost immediately after he heard about the edit. I haven't actually seen the edited version of the scene (I figure I'll be less upset about it that way). My brother has said that he actually prefers Derpy's second voice, but the underping of her eyes ruins the comedic timing (as in, without the crossed eyes, it seems unlikely that she would be THAT uncoordinated), and removing the name completely misses the entire point of the scene.

And Clyde and Q*Bert have always looked like that. Well, Clyde looks completely different now, since Namco decided to completely change what everyone looked like for Pac-Man Party. Because, nothing screams "30 years of Pac-Man" like "Mario Party Clone".

I found out why Netflix had its "DERP" moment.

My mother added a show called "Jem and the Holograms" to our family's instant queue, I'm assuming that she did on a computer because of the error that I'm going to mention. Anyway, later when my non-brony friend came to visit, we looked at the queue for something to watch while we ate lunch. While he was going through our queue, he came across MLP: FiM in the queue and looked really confused. "What's this doing here?" he asked me. I was as confused as he was. "I don't know!" I replied. We kept looking through the queue afterwards. He didn't think much of it, but I kept wondering, "Did someone else add it?" Yet, when my family saw it, they were confused, too. So, I assumed Netflix goofed. And, I was right. A week or two later, FiM became Jem. I asked my mom, and she said she had added it. I was glad I found out why MLP was there but what did Jem do with MLP?

Well, I was on the Hub's website, and while looking at the shows list at the top of the page, I saw Jem was on the Hub. SO, Netflix for some reason, because it was confused between those two Hasbro shows that they added to Netflix at about the same time, switched the two.

Yeah, I just started playing Grand Theft Auto III (the grandfather of Sandbox games) under an hour ago. Remember that list of games I said I got? Well, I finally started to crack into some of them. Turns out I had gigabytes of useless files on my hard drive. (I contacted my local computer-repair guy to confirm.) Now, I've got a lot more room for stuff!

GTAIII has been kind of interesting, thus far. Haven't gotten any mission, aside from going to get someone and driving them "home".

Also, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is very unusual. VERY unusual. "How unusual?" It's actually realistic. It's mechanics are like Counter-Strike in an open map.

Too bad I couldn't get System Shock 2 working. I hear it's incredible. I'll have to jump into Fallout, sometime.

We're still on Chapter 1. And... Yes. It is a long one. This page is only the very start of the rising action. It's here that the plot has actually kicked right in!

Here, look at some of this stuff...

http://staff.fcps.net/tcarr/shortstory/cinderella.htm
http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/plot-diagram/

The Rising Action just started on this exact page. Also, it's important to note that most plot diagrams (AKA, "literary pyramids"), the one for this chapter included, have the Climax slanted far to the right.

@Lugbzurg: Actually, most wham episodes tend to happen in the middle, or at least close to the end. "Return of Harmony" also kind of qualifies as a wham, as we learn much more about Equestria and the kinds of threats it faces. The first part REALLY qualifies as a wham.

@AuraX: I think it's one of the best things to happen to the franchise. I remember as a kid wondering after seeing generation after generation of Transformers (Energon, Armada, Cybertron, etc.) why they didn't just go ahead and make a 3-D animated series. Then, all the robots could move at a decent level!

Not only did they finally do that, but, this is probably the most serious and elite they've ever taken the series as a TV show. They didn't just get My Little Pony right, they nailed Transformers, too!

But, I think it's rather odd that they're also airing Transformers: Rescue Bots at the same time, for a younger audience. Perhaps, this was because of the ponies. I suppose they thought if they could get fans young and old for My Little Pony by accident, they could get young and old fans of Transformers on purpose.

Also, there's this fan-made idea. It's called "Transformares". Do a search on DeviantART, and you'll see what I mean.

@Lugbzurg: I highly disagree with you on Transformers Animated. I thought it was the second best Transformers series of all time (the first being Beast Wars). Comparing it to Sonic 06 is, quite frankly, an insult.

Speaking of My Little Pony: Generation 1, have you ever seen the original pilot, Escape from Castle Midnight(which is sometimes called Return to Castle Midnight for some reason)? I've heard it's one of the few good points of the original series, though mostly for the extremely dark villain, Tirac. ...Actually, CR of Familiar Faces (a video series on thatguywiththeglasses.com) did a retrospective of MLP right when Season 2 of FiM was beginning. Part 1 was everything up to G3.5, and Part 2 was FiM. He noted that the original show had a surprising number of really disturbing villains, also noting that said villains were pretty much the best parts of the original show.

...Goddamnit, now I want to see a Friendship Is Magic version of Tirac.

Also, Cybertron was the only good part of the Unicron Trilogy (what Armada, Energon, and Cybertron are collectively known as, because of the prominence of, well, Unicron). Armada and Energon were just bleh, though admittedly, Cybertron wasn't exactly without its faults.

Armada was better than Energon by far, but it still wasn't that good imo. Still had some good parts, though. One of the best Starscreams of all time. It's almost like they put all the effort into making a good character (Starscream) and didn't bother much with the rest.

Cybertron did have it's faults, especially when dubbed. It brings up one of the biggest plotholes in the entire franchise (It actually being part of the Unicron trilogy, yet so many things contradict it).

That brings us to another group of whiners: the ones that believe Cybertron is the worst thing of all time, but Galaxy Force (the original japanese version) is the best thing of all time.

Ugggggggggghhhhhhhhh.

Funny thing is, Cybertron done a few things better than Galaxy Force. David Kaye as Megatron/Galvatron being one of them.

Another thing they done better was the whole black hole thing. You know thatr andom planet that was sucked into the black hole at the start of the series? In Japan, Cybertron got sucked in there.

Which makes no sense, considering everyone GOES THERE HALFWAY THROUGH THE SERIES.

They should be getting spaghettified! Or whatever it is you call dying in a black hole...

At least the dub made it so that Cybertron never was sucked in the black hole...

I'm just ranting now, aren't I?

And that big plot twist with Sari Sundec was not well-played. And... Honestly... a villainous group actually calling themselves "SUV", and thinking it was so cool... No.

@Jarkes: Something like that happened in Toy Story! Well, the game, at least.

@AuraX: So... You ever seen Starscream get his own butt personally handed to him, courtesy of Rainbow Dash?

reply

@Lugbzurg: The whole point of "SUV" was that they were, well, kind of losers who just happened to have pretty useful technology. Also, childish and watered-down? Did you see the episode "Thrill of the Hunt?" Or half of Season 3, for that matter? Or the fact that half of the members of the Autobot Elite Guard are, well, kind of dickish (and one of them is a Decepticon double agent)? Or any of Meltdown's appearances? Or how they took Waspinator, eternal butt monkey of Beast Wars, and made him f**king terrifying?

Yeah, Headmaster and several other human villains were kind of lame, but that was the whole point. It made the Decepticons that much more of a threat, considering that early on, it took the whole team of 5 Autobots just to take out 1 Decepticon (though they had a much easier time dealing with them by Season 3).

As for Sari, my problem is that they weren't able to do much with her being a robot before the series got unceremoniously cancelled to promote f**king Revenge of the Fallen (That's seriously the reason it happened; I still haven't forgiven Hasbro for that). We never got an answer as to where exactly Sari came from (specifically, how her pod was in Sumdac's lab in the first place), and Derrick Wyatt has said he won't reveal anything about it unless he gets a chance to continue the story, which isn't that likely. Mind you, there were about 50 other plot points that were unresolved because of this, but I've kind of come to terms with that.

@AuraX:

True, but the dub at least made the overused stock footage interesting, and it didn't screw up the translation so much as to make the dialogue make absolutely no sense.

Regarding Galaxy Force, it doesn't help that midway through the series, the Japanese producers changed their minds and said, yes, Galaxy Force is in the same continuity as Micron Legend (Armada) and Super Link (Energon).

so they obviously won't make good starting points for skeptical people like gabriel :I

@GabrielsThoughts:
i don't know your tastes so i'll just use the fandom's suggestions again

you should start with season 1 like the rest of the good ponies:
- applebuck season (applejack-centric)
- dragonshy (fluttershy-centric)
- fall weather friends (applejack and rainbow dash-centric)
- party of one (pinkie-centric)(has a very short song)
- the best night ever (main casts-centric) (have a major song and some short ones)

if you find them to your liking you can proceed with the season 2:
- lesson zero (twilight-centric)
- luna eclipsed (twilight and a side character-centric)(halloween episode)
- baby cakes (pinkie-centric)(have some short songs)
- a friend in deed (pinkie-centric)(have a major song and some short ones)
- putting your hoof down (fluttershy-centric)

rarity episodes are not very good because most of them are pretty girly
but that's what you'd expect from a pony who make fabulous dresses :I

By striking up the shield he had established at the very beginning, while being super-charged by his own fiance. It made complete and total sense. It was sudden, but, it made perfect sense, it was logical, it was realistic. It was fitting.
