Goodness... We aren't going in circles, are we?

Fellow bronies (and those who seem to hold some mild curiosity towards the appeal of this comic), allow me to take some of my own time in order to say "Happy Anniversary!" Full Circle here is the 1st anniversary page of Serendipity!

It's been this long, already... wow. I can remember running into Friendship is Magic in the most unusual way, watching the show outright, that amazing feel I got from seeing it for myself early on in August of 2011 (14th, I think it was), and how I wanted to make something to show for my bronyism less than a month after I watched the first episode. Upon fiddling with the Pony Creator, once I saw what it was capable of, I immediately thought that someone could totally make an entire webcomic with this thing. Then, I thought, "Why not?" So, I did (after planning and letting some ideas flow). And thus, Serendipity was born. I knew I wanted the name to be a single relatively-fancy word that isn't used very often. So, I basically Googled "Fancy Words", ran into a Yahoo! list or something, and the second word down was "Serendipity". As soon as I read the definition, I knew I need not go on further. This was exactly the word I was looking for!

Before Serendipity, my big comic on Smack Jeeves was Sonic Future, which I started on when I was 13 around August of 2007, before I even knew what a "Smack Jeeves" was, and released at the age of 14, back in March of 2008. In comparison, Sonic Future is certainly less bold and lore-heavy than Serendipity. Indeed, when I first started this comic, I had still retained some of my Sonic Future mindset. But in time, that was changed, and this comic evolved into something much more grand and mature.

I can even remember refusing to actually start on it until I downloaded GIMP and figured it out. I knew a big new comic needed a new image application to stand up visually. (I had always used Paint before this) I started out with a file of Derpy Hooves saluting with a cloud tile background behind her as she said in a speech balloon with no outline or shading and off-center text, "This is a test to see if I can make GIMP become derpytastic!" This was followed up by a file with my first attempt at making a standard, passable speech balloon with an outline, made from a tutorial that took way too long to complete, followed by an actual non-cannon Serendipity pilot comic about me and Rainbow Dash, after I'd found a tutorial that made building speech balloons easy.

The story here was originally going to be rather uneventful, with just a bunch of jokes scattered about. But I eventually decided to take a completely different approach, as new plot points began to form in my head, which I had (and for others, still have) to wait for months before their use! Even this one page was inspired by the Rarity graphic in the last panel, which I found several months ago. And lemmie tell you, it was awkward, setting up the dialogue for this page, writing for characters to voice their (theoretical) opinions about you and try to stray away from coming off as Mary-Sueish, while still not being comepletely out-of-whack negative, at the same time. (Rainbow Dash was originally going to be a lot more positive. Not entirely sure why I changed that.)

So far, this comic's been focused on at Smack Jeeves. Though, I have also posted it on iBrony, though it's barely gotten any attention, at this point. Nowhere near the 97 other fans (not counting guests) logged into this site. I plan to host this on DeviantART, at some point. But only sometime after I've revealed my bronyism there. I still want to keep that a secret and surprise my watchers later. Beyond all of this, I am also setting up another release of Serendipity on Tumblr!

This story has been up for a while, now. It's no longer my little rookie, anymore. It's matured greatly from its original conception, and it's only about to get better. Before, I had thought that I would start making all the pages hand-drawn, once I'd reached a certain point. But recently, I've come to the realization that I'd simply do not want this anymore. I have received some of my best ideas from looking through my graphical resources, and just seeing what's available. Often, I get pages like this, where the whole idea had spawned from a single character graphic. Just like indie games or any smaller project like this, being very limited in this way does in fact force you to become more creative than if you have anything you want. You get to break instinct and try things you never would have written up on your own.

This comic has changed, I have changed, and so have my readers, along with my relationships with those who have the tendency to speak up and give feedback quite frequently, such as Parfait d'Amour, .:AuraX:., Jarkes, Sabbo Again, and Gabrielsthoughts. But these five (and some of the rest of you 92 other registered readers) probably know most of this stuff, already. However, it's been a year since the day I originally released this comic, and another week more since I released that teaser trailer. So, there are still some new readers who might have had some curiosity towards the history of this comic and my relation to it. Besides, I felt that a one year retrospective was necessary. I certainly had a lot more to say that I'd anticipated. I'm very excited to see the third season of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and what becomes of the second year of Serendipity!

Anyway, for those who are thinking "Too long; didn't read", just know this... I love this comic, and I'm going to make it better! But more importantly, I love my readers, as well. I've constructed friendships by doing little more than arranging little cartoon pictures on my outdated, internetless, laggy, Windows XP up in my bedroom. And, I dare say, that's worth something!

Anyway, it's time I started giving the appropriate graphical credit for this page.

> Twilight Sparkle

I still haven't watched, much less paid attention to more than a handfull of episodes. I'm still not brainwashed, ha ha ha ha. I got off almost completely scott free... even though I'm scarred for life and find the prevalence of ponies in the comics I read fascinating.

Also I think Lugz is a very good storyteller.

@.:AuraX:.: The time has come for us all to take a walk through the Serendipity museum!

Here is the very first thing I ever made in GIMP!

It was immediately followed up by this speech balloon. Notice how much improvement there has been since then!

Here's one of the first things I made in the Pony Creator BETA. It's my little sister; the one who adores My Little Pony! She's 5 years old, and designed it all by herself! I was just told what to click.
http://www.smackjeeves.com/images/pb/4/4ibQ6a5UNeh79j5gSYXP9r.png

Here's an unused graphic of Bloodlust. You can see a couple things missing from how you normally see her. This is how they all look when I export them. I just didn't need the pose.

I suspect the FIM universe has an affirmative action equivalency program. As such, sexism ((as a potentially subversive form of racism)) would in fact work both ways.

And, For the record. I'm not stupid, I'm advanced. Jesus, being a more current philosopher than Soloman, and a more noble statesman than Paul, mentioned something about the danger of hellfire for making certain assumptions in Matthew 5:22.

And with regards to Samuel Clemens, a notorious liar who was also born in Florida, and who was also a former Nevadan... I feel it only right to refute his statement with a quote from his contemporary and eternal rival one Ambrose Bierce. "Speak when you're angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret."

Anyway, revisiting the episode Sonic Rainboom, I'd say Hoops is the one I'm looking for. He seemed to be the leader of the bunch. But it seems to be hard to track down any vectors of these guys. They're a bit obscure, and aren't particularly popular ponies. In fact, it seems any one of the school foals get more vectors than the three of these guys combined.

I thought Sponge Bob already accomplished the exploration of Nirvana by finding joy in ignorance.

I might feel better about it if the media encouraged the exploration of Nirvana by finding the joy in everything.

Then again, knowing the media, they might twist the meaning to finding joy in justifiable homicide or some other moral hiccup first and foremost. Something along those lines would not be enjoyable... for the victim.

Let's admit that humanity is both silly and bloodthirsty, then move on.

Hang on, let me check Bulbapedia. I know there's one particular Pokemon that has about five weaknesses due to its type combination, but I can't remember what it is.

EDIT: Five Pokemon share the record of most weaknesses, with a grand total of seven: Snover and Abomasnow, Exeggcute and Exeggcutor, and Celebi. Of these, the first two are Grass/Ice, and the other three are Grass/Psychic. Note that all of them are at least part grass type.

EDIT 2: It's also worth noting that the Grass type has the most weaknesses of a single type, with five. The Rock type also has five different weaknesses, which is ironic given its reputation as being very good defensively.

Course, there should be a water/fire type, even if that would be broken as buck, it would still be hilarious.

And I'm pretty sure that both Rock and Steel were supposed to be double edged swords defensively: they defend well against a LOT of types, but what types they are weak against are relatively common.

And he'll still collaborate with them every now and then, it's just that his stuff isn't hosted on the site anymore.
